Neuroqueer Talmud | Gender Beyond the Binary in the Jewish Tradition | June 2025

In this round of Neuroqueer Talmud, we will begin with the Torah and early rabbinic texts that explore categories of gender beyond the binary - and trace these ideas into the worlds of Jewish mysticism. We will study how the rabbis named and worked with different gender expressions, how they imagined embodiment, and how these conversations evolved in later mystical thought.

Our Beit Midrash (study hall) is different.

We do not require any prior knowledge of Talmud, Hebrew, Jewish text, gender theory, or neurodivergence.

You do not need to perform expertise to belong here.

We will guide you carefully through every text.

We believe that Torah is not owned by a few - it is created together, in community.

Learning here is not about mastery. It is about building relationship - with the text, with each other, and with ourselves.

Our learning space is built on the belief that deep engagement comes from trust, autonomy, and mutual care - not from performance or authority. Every person brings something necessary to the conversation.

Together, we will ask:

• What possibilities for gender and embodiment lived in the early rabbinic imagination?

• How did these ideas change as Jewish mystical traditions developed?

• What happens when we approach Talmud with the full presence of our neurodivergence, queerness, and embodied experience?

• What kind of Torah becomes possible when we refuse to leave parts of ourselves behind?

This is a space for anyone who wants to learn in a serious, open, and radically inclusive Beit Midrash. You do not need to already know how. We will meet you where you are.

Sessions will be held over Zoom. We follow the Guidelines for Safe and Neuro-Affirming Spaces, which you can read here. This includes practices like optional cameras, structured breaks, slow pacing, access to written materials, and a consent-based approach to participation.

Tuition for the course is €120. This is a discounted rate to make learning accessible to as many people as possible. If this tuition is beyond your means, you are welcome to use the code HEZI-HEZI for 50% off (€60). No questions asked or explanations needed.

The true cost of the course is €200. If you are able to contribute above €120, please consider adding the difference in the tip box when registering. It is deeply appreciated and helps us continue making this learning possible for others.

Dates - June 22 & 29 + July 6 & 13
